On 9 November, the Human Rights Film Festival of Naples meets students with a meeting on the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal (PPT), together with the University of Naples ‘Federico II ‘and the Foundation Lelio and Lisli Basso and Lisli.

The Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal is a tribunal of opinion and was founded in 1979 on the initiative of Senator Lelio Basso, as a direct continuation of the experience of the Russell Tribunal II on dictatorships in Latin America (1974-1976).

The work of the PPT is based on the principles expressed in the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Peoples proclaimed in Algiers in 1976 by the Lelio Basso, the then president of the International League for the Rights and Liberation of Peoples, and the main international instruments of protection of fundamental human rights.

The PPT has examined to date over 40 cases. Between 5 and 8 November will be held in Turin the concluding session of the Tribunal on “Fundamental rights, participation of local communities and infrastructure projects (from Tav to global reality)”, to which the Festival will dedicate an event on November 14.
